Human Performance Movement Analysis Lab @ KMRREC

Normal Gait Full Body image
The HPMAL includes 1220 square feet of laboratory space for analyzing the biomechanics and physiology of various movement patterns. The laboratory incorporates two rooms, both cabled for motion capture – a main laboratory with a 10 meter raised platform for gait, and wheelchair propulsion and other motion analyses, and a smaller laboratory for bodyweight supported ambulation studies.

Vicon™ 612 motion capture system including seven high speed M2 cameras (Oxford Metrics, Ltd., Oxford, UK)

Bertec™ 4080 force plates - for measuring ground reaction forces in three planes. The plates are mounted into a raised gait platform that allows for multiple force plate configurations depending on the activity being analyzed and is modular to ensure levelness for accuracy when capturing global coordinates. (Bertec Corporation, Columbus, OH, USA)

Novel Pedar®-x - an accurate and reliable pressure distribution measuring system for monitoring local loads and pressures on the plantar surface of the foot. The system consists of a portable data collection device, and two thin elastic sensor insoles that are inserted into the foot-shoe interface. (GmbH, Munich, Germany)

COSMED™ K4b2 - system for collection of metabolic and EKG data during gait, wheelchair propulsion, and exercise. (COSMED USA, Inc., Chicago, IL, USA)

MA-300™ EMG System - a 16-channel system that provides individual channel gains, bandwidth filtering, and real time signal display. (Motion Lab Systems, Inc., Baton Rouge, LA)

instrumented pushrim image
SmartWheel™ - features an instrumented pushrim that measures three-dimensional forces and torques during manual wheelchair propulsion. Wireless and/or onboard data collection allows for testing in a variety of environments. (Three Rivers Holdings, LLC., Mesa, AZ)

The autonomic cart includes a Colin Pilot™ non-invasive blood pressure measurement system that utilizes arterial tonometry to measure systolic and diastolic blood pressures, and a RESP- 1 Impedance Pneumograph that monitors respiration and heart rate simultaneous with blood pressure recordings. (Colin, An Omron Company, San Antonio, TX; UFI, Morro Bay, CA)

Robomedica™ bodyweight support treadmill system for conducting research on the effects of bodyweight supported ambulation in populations with gait pathologies. The system provides support of the body weight through the use of pneumatic compressed air. It includes 2 force platforms to measure gait kinetics, seats for leg trainers, elastic supports for pelvic control at the harness, and a ramp for easy access by wheel.
